This is a brilliant video. It made me cry...with the truth of beauty of what he had to say. I have shared with others, my daughter, my two nieces and nephew. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!!! Patricia

Hey, don't know if you know, but this was actually an essay written by Mary Schmich, published in the Chicago Tribune in 1997. She wrote it saying it was what she would give as a commencement speech if ever asked to give one. Baz Luhrmann read the article a few years later and loved it so much he made it into a song...a very popular one. It made the Billboard top ten for weeks. It came out right before I graduated college in 1999, while living in SF, so it resonated a lot with me! It was good to listen to it again! It's been years since I heard it.

Didn't know that - it is even better now. How I wish that had been the speech at my commencement - it could have saved me a lot of wasted time.

I loved this when I heard it the first time too! I wasn't sure of the source, so lost track of it. Thank you for the reminder and source info! I am going to show to my daughters...who always wear sunscreen!

If you or anyone has the written version of these wonderful words could you please forward it to me. I would like to print it out for the office bulletin board for inspiration. Thanks Patricia
