Well-worn high-bohemian

Christopher Gibbs photographed by Victor Watts in his Albany set for Tattler. The day bed pictured belonged to Lord Tennyson.

The interior of Gibbs's now closed Pimlico shop.

Gibbs's Moroccan vision of 81 Powis Square, Notting Hill for the 1970s film Performance starring Mick Jagger.

I'm not interested in creating a dazzling impression of richness. We can make do with surprisingly little in life. It is best to have a few things which are really nice. I don't approve of the mean look, but I do approve of the spare look, where every little bit is telling. - Christopher Gibbs

I hadn't seen the Victor Watts photograph before; very moody.

You slightly pipped me to the post - thankfully as your images are great - as I am have found a selection of pictures (from the sale catalogue) of Clifton Hampden with pieces previously owned by Harry Blackmer that i intend to upload.

It is also worth having a look at how the Gibbs Dove Walk gallery has been changed in its new hands:

Similar stock but lacking the panache.....

His quote says it all to me. Nothing more matters than that. I have never met CG but we have mutual friends, and I am longing to talk or bask in his presence. Doesn't matter for how long. He is genius.

Are you really back? Saw your link still up on Cote de Texas and was thrilled to see a new post. I always thoroughly enjoyed your blog and the fascinating objects and subjects you featured. You have a truly unique voice and the blog world will be a better place with you back in top form. I would be happy to announce your return on my own blog if you are willing.
Glad to see you back in action,

Sincerely,
Jackie

Wasn't Gibbs's own apartment in Blow Up?

I sold a chimneypiece to Christopher Gibbs about 7 years ago, and then was given a tour of the shop a few weeks thereafter. Unfortunately didn't meet the man himself, but his very able consultant/colleague. And what an Alladin's cave...
