THE WOMEN: The Fashion Show

I just want to curl up and watch this movie over and over again.

That is one of the most wonderfully ridiculous clips I have ever seen! Quelle mad (my favorite moment is when the self-described cicerone of the fashion show beams and says, "Lumiere, musique!"). From a design point, the setting is very Draper-does-Quitandinha, no?

What a great movie. Love the clothes. What a great era in fashion that was. I must rent this DVD over the holidays and feast my eyes.

Mitchell - mine too, I have been saying it all day. Ha!
Absolutely - only with a better colour pallet. Who did do the interior, surely Rollo did not do it on his own? Any idea what it is like now?

Hi PG - buy it and commit every juicy, catty line to memory. It is just fabulous.

Draper did Quitandinha ... and it is completely intact! The interiors have been scrupulously preserved and are entirely unchanged. See the following websites: http://www.congressosquitandinha.com.br/ingles/locations.htm and for a new restaurant in Madrid that was done Quitandinha style, see http://www.dezeen.com/2007/10/22/la-terraza-del-casino-by-jaime-hayon/... I talked with Carleton Varney of Dorothy Draper & Company and he was amazed by the Madrid restaurant's homage ...

The Quitandinha website is down!!! It was www.congressosquitandinha.com.br. I don't know why it's down. It was working a month ago and showed the interiors of Quitandinha in the most glorious full color. It was totally intact, if you compared the images to the original photographs after Draper completed the hotel's decoration. Will find out more and get back to you on this.

The website operators apparently needs to re-fund the site to make it active again. I will send an email to get it up again (hopefully).

Mitchell - What a treasure.
Gorgeous - you are so right, pure theatre.

So, DD did do Quitandinha - it looked like her work I just expected the colours to be much bolder, a la the Greenbrier Hotel.
Will keep checking for a better look. Thanks for the info.

I so adore this movie! I love that the fashion show is in color while the rest of the movie is B&W. I don't think ol' Joan had to act too hard for this movie.
