Amen

Mr Kieth Irvine

It is Mr. Irvine’s opinion that decorating right now has no sauce whatsoever, the expression of a culture that’s afraid to commit. Take, for example, he said, “the modern habit of propping pictures against the wall. It’s A, sort of pretentious and B, tentative.”

He continued: “And that applies to color; they’re scared of it too. Most of the rooms today end up looking like some set piece from Crate & Barrel. I don’t mean to knock Crate & Barrel, because it’s a great resource, but you don’t have to emulate their showroom.”

These words are such a soothing balm to my soul. Bless his kilted little heart.

Now there's a man with a strong point of view and I love his Kilt.

I go along with the criticism of not properly hanging pictures. But I'm afraid his whinge slightly loses its weight when the portrait behind him is festooned with that weird ribbon decoration. It was fun in Sloane Square in the 1980s, but "puleeze" honey, not now.

I was amazed when I read on Pigtown that he celebrated his
80th with a garage sale! Wish I could have been there!

OMG I love this old salty dog!
He had a great interview on The New Social Diary blog sometime ago, and his views on Mid Century Modern were a hoot.
And of course he has the talent and a kilt to back up his opinions!
