Continental Neoclassical Fruitwood Center Table, mid-19th century, the circular top raised on a carved dolphin- form standard to a shaped four-part base, h. 31", dia. 41".

Attractive English Regency Carved Giltwood Convex Looking Glass of Small Size, first quarter 19th century, the inner molding in "Greek Key" decor, the cresting modeled as a dolphin resting its chin on a rocky crag, the basal finial a pair of addorsed and entwined giltwood dolphins, the plate tastefully disintegrated, h. 35", w. 19".

Pair of Empire-Style Ebonized and Gilt Sidechairs, late 19th century, each with a rounded paneled back above a dolphin-carved splat, the padded seat flanked by gilt imbricate-carved side rails, raised on saber legs, h. 34".

What do you think about the chairs? I love the back but not the side rails of the seat.

Originally I thought the same, but then I thought with black seats they would be perfect.

I've always loved the dolphin motif. Figured it was part of my Greek heritage. But, I think of it as an Oriental design. Interesting to see it used here, in this way.

Not sure I like the sides of the chairs either. But, then, straight sides really would make them more predictable.
