The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone (1961) tells the tale of a fading American actress (played by a Pierre Balmain clad Vivien Leigh) who, en route to Rome, unexpectedly becomes a very rich American widow. Adrift and afraid, she decides to stay in the Eternal City. Where, against her better judgement, she takes a lover (Beatty). A lover who is bought and paid for.

Dear Vivien was such a grand interpreter of Tennessee Williams' work.
oh god, I've got to see this film. If only for Miss Leigh's wardrobe.(Shame about the lavender wig though). Thanks for more film genius.
What was that line "At this point a cut throat would be a convenience"
I love the line and the way she delivered it.
Haven't seen this version, but enjoyed Helen Mirren's portrayal of Mrs Stone, with assorted and very handsome real Italian lovers.
