Easy come, easy go

On Saturday I also met a couple from Dallas, and they seemed, no they were, very nice. They purchased a skull from us and were also very excited at the possibility of acquiring a Victorian case as well. Great, or so I thought.
Turns out, the Doctor's wife is chummy with another natural history dealer just outside of London. Turns out, she sent a former customer of ours his way. Turns out, they already have an example of this particular skull. Turns out, I am refunding their money for the skull. Turns out, the Doctor's wife really wants the case. Turns out, I am going to let them know on Thursday if it can be shipped without a problem.

Case by James Gardner, 1885

Now, how do you think the rest of this little story turns out?
I think you know...

That case is ravishing. I love those cases. Do you recall a World of Interiors article about an historic house in England, wherein the entire dining room (I think) was lined with such cases? Bliss.

I'm a little lost. What kind of case is it? What kind of skull?

fairfax - I am not going to bite. Texas is on my list of possible places to live if we move back.

AL - shame it is such a bad picture. It is very good, part of an historic series that Gardner did. We have kept a couple for our own collection.
WOI always seems to have some house with them featured, don't recall that particular one, though.

mamacita - the case in the picture, which is a Victorian diorama of birds made by one of Queen Victoria's favoured taxidermists, James Gardner.
And a bird skull, that is both rare and unforgettable, but not pictured.

Ha ha ha ha ha! I know exactly how this story turned out...and I LOVE it!

I want that case.

Cupcake - guess what? It's still available!

HoBC - I've lived in Texas and am concerned that it would be on your list. Please rethink ASAP.

No offense, Joni.

Mrs. B, you'd better watch yourself. Those of us in Houston are already putting together the welcome parade.

mamacita - I sure hope that isn't code for a lynchin' party! Haahaa!

HOBAC said...

Mrs B - I think they would love us. I think they would get the grand gesture, the unusual, the sheer balls of it all.

Nonsense, we don't have those anymore.

BTW, Houston is considerably more hospitable than Dallas. Those people just have no sense of humor.

I love your stories, and love the fact that you possess the duality of personality to appreciate London as well as Texas. It is sort of like being equally as enamoured with classical music and bluegrass or zydeco. You just have to pick the good parts of each, no?

mamacita - that's just my sense of humor.

KD - that's absolutely right. I just happen to love all three. Beauty is where you find it!

WHAT? Mrs. B, get thee back to Kansas my dear. W: Texas, really? What parts? How exciting. And email me the Dallas peoples' names, hehe, I may know them, you never know.

Hi Mamacita!!
