La Wally aria from Diva - Wilhelmenia Wiggins Fernandez

This movie marked the beginning of the end of the life that my parents had planned for me, and the beginning of a life that I had not yet envisioned. For the first time I saw that culture could exist outside of a haute bourgeois setting. A pivotal and liberating moment.

It is a wonderful movie -- my first "date" movie -- which may cloud my judgement. I remember buying the soundtrack after I saw it.

Alba and Gorodish turn up in four more novels by Delacourta. Although none is as rewarding as Diva. Gorodish's car in the movie was my first inkling that one could live a bit differently; if one chose to.

Thanks for reminding me of the movie and my much younger self.
