Timeless and original

Pauline Trigère

Fashion is what people tell you to wear, style is what comes from your own inner thing.

Patrica Neal's sophisticated wardrobe in Breakfast at Tiffany's was the work of Ms. Trigère.

I love the you tube where she is trying to explain her talent, which of course she can't - because her vision, just is.

I hadn't thought of her in forever. What made you? just curious.

And how chic and timeless is she in the first picture?

CdT - Ms. Trigère has always been one of my fashion heroes. I started out looking for images of her NY apartment (it was in VF a few years back) and her country house (La Tortue), but found the youtube clip instead.

Love her. Which house of hers is in the AD Celebrity Houses book? I loved how she used the fabric with her name printed on it throughout one of the bedrooms.

PoC - now, I haven't seen that one. La Tortue was her country house in Westchester (?). Tto quote the NY Times it was a "1820's colonial house and a rugged expanse of gardens amid rock outcroppings and apple trees".

And of course, when you're feeling blue, wear red :)

pauline trigère. incredible. i love her hands and her gestures. patricia neal was the perfect woman for that part and for that fantastic wardrobe. great post!

ps peter bacanovic used to live in the townhouse they used in the film for holly and paul varjak. i've always loved paul varjak's flat. a little over the top, but gorgeous!

There's this much admired television series in the USA called Mad Men, set in 1962, and I have waited in vain to see at least ONE character costumed a la Trigere...
shall we say the Department Store Heiress? It just killed me to see those missed opportunities week after week. Re the B at Tiffany images, I always liked the variations on style as supplied by Trigere for Ms Neal and Givenchy for Ms Hepburn.

PP - "Patricia Neal was the perfect woman" period

I remember wanting to make my first apartment look like that, but red.

TW - that is one of the best shows around. And, I could not agree more.
