I was all set to dislike it but was quite taken in — except by the witch. She seemed out of character in comparison to what I saw of the others.

But frankly, this is not a book I've ever read. I have read a lot about it (all the political background about Wm. Jennings Bryan etc) but the movie is the only reality for me. There is only Judy in the end.

The movie really made wrinkles in my reality as a child and I still find it difficult to understand why she gave up all that colour for black and white.
