New year, same old shit. As they insist upon acting the ignorant peasants they are, I will happily treat them as such. This year may very well be our last at Portobello, and if that is the case, I fully intend to go out with a bang.

Don't they know that one day most browsers become buyers? And the time you spend (waste) with them may pay off handsomely indeed? If folks hadn't been kind enough to educate my husband and I, our house would be bare and they would be the poorer.

Ms. Wis. - Unfortunately, I am in the position of the "they". The people who now come to Portobello treat it as if it were a trip to Disneyland. Few realise that some of the most respected dealers trade from there.

The tag line of our business reads "the rare and unusual", not the cheap and cheerful. And, I grow increasingly weary of casting pearls before swine.

Do you think that you could transition to a web-based business? I can only imagine that you would be a world-wide phenomenon in no time whatsoever.

Best wishes for an enchanted 2009. And thanks for doing what you do so well.

Oops - foot in mouth! I do browse but try to do it intelligently, which makes me forget that others may not treat it the same. And, of course, owning beautiful/rare/unusual treasures, means that I recognize and appreciate them when I see them. Hope I did not offend you — certainly not my intent.

Ms. Wis. - none intended, and certainly none taken.

E&EL - Thank you. All the best to you for the coming year. I'm thinking... by appointment only.

Oh, that has a very nice ring to it. "By appointment to" will surely follow on its heels.

Just come back here. We get you. By appointment only may be a wise move. I do think you could make an easy go of a web based business even if you just begin with a few items in your margin here. Hmmm..might generate pesky emails.
